The Power of Website Call to Actions (CTAs)

Call To Action CTA Button Marketing Online Design Page

Scenario

Tim is starting a business. He makes a website with beautiful visuals and compelling writing, but he’s missing something. Even though his audience loves his site, nobody is buying anything. They think he’s just a fanboy for the stuff he’s selling. They can’t find his product! Why is this, you may ask? He’s missing his call to actions/CTAs!

What is a CTA?

CTA is short for Call to Action. What’s a call to action? It’s something that grabs your attention. On websites, a CTA is something (usually a button) that calls your audience to do a certain thing. An example of this would be a “Sign Up Now!” or a “See More” button. This functions to tell users what you want them to do. For a casual blog like mine, it would increase traffic. For an e-commerce website, it would help increase sales.

Websites. Wonderful, great things that help you expand your business or simply interact with others on the internet. You could have an amazing website, but if you don’t have CTAs then users won’t know what you want them to do. They won’t know the next steps to subscribing to your blog or buying your product.

How to make a CTA stand out

Since the CTA is meant to call attention to what you want your customers to do, it should stand out on your page. This can be accomplished through color or size. If the text on your site is small, you’d want to make your call to action large. If your site is dark, you’d make your call to action light.

Examples of Good CTAs

My first example of a good CTA is on the singer-songwriter, Taylor Swift’s website. Her website is spaced out and her text is small, so her web designer made her buttons large. This way, even though the buttons don’t really stand out, they’re very visible without being obnoxious. The buttons still match her theme, so you don’t have to necessarily break your theme for your CTAs.
